Vilakkumadam Thuruth (Lighthouse Island)

The lighthouse in the lake offers another glimpse into the antiquity of T.V. Puram. Located on an island in Vembanad Lake behind the Sree Rama Swamy Temple, this lighthouse was established during the era of royal rule to guide vessels when cargo transport and water travel were active. It originally consisted of a tall lighthouse tower and a room below. While the room has now decayed and fallen into ruin, the lighthouse tower still stands. Until about a decade and a half ago, a kerosene lamp was lit atop the tower. This island and the lighthouse are currently under the possession of the Irrigation Department. Surrounded by the lake, the lush island filled with flora and the historic lighthouse stand as a symbol of antiquity with great potential for tourism.
