History
T.V. Puram Grama Panchayat is located in the Vaikom Taluk of Kottayam district. It was established on November 11, 1950. Spanning a total area of 17.03 sq. km—which includes 7.86 sq. km of land area and 9.17 sq. km of backwater area—the panchayat is divided into 14 wards.
Geographically, T.V. Puram, which stands for Thirumani Venkita Puram, is a peninsula. It is bordered by the Kariyar River to the east, the Vembanad Lake to the south and west, and the Vaikom Municipality to the north. Recently, the Kariyar Spillway was constructed at Kottachira across the Kariyar River, connecting it with Kothavara in Thalayazham Panchayat. This has significantly reduced the travel distance to Kottayam, Alappuzha, and Cherthala. High population density and a very small land area are the key features of this village. Covering less than 2,000 acres of land, it is one of the smallest panchayats in Kerala.
